3) IMPLANTS. The advantage of an implant is that it does not depend on the rest of the teeth in the mouth. If the teeth each side of a gap are wobbly and are not strong enough to support a bridge, an implant is ideal. Alternatively if teeth either side of a gap are filling-free and healthy, it seems a crime to use them as pilars for a bridge, again in this case an implant is perfect.
An implant comes in three parts:
1) The screw (the implant) in the gum.
2) the post which then holds
3) a crown (i.e. the false tooth).
When a big molar tooth has been lost and there are no teeth behind to bridge the gap again an implant is ideal as it needs no other teeth to support it. However, by far the greatest advantage of implants is when we have lost all our teeth. Implants can be used to make bridges as a permanent option all the way around the mouth or just two to four implants can fix a denture firmly into place, no more embarassing situations in the restaurant and say goodbye to the sticky glue!
What we must learn is that a gap in the mouth must never be left to its own devices because this only leads to increased load on the remaining teeth which tilt forwards or backwards, grow down into a space, eventually become loose or crack due to the unstable bite that has been created.
So don´t wait until it’s too late when there is no bone left to have an implant, or the teeth are too weak for a bridge or you really will be seeing your worst nightmare of false teeth come true.
