Dental Implants in Javea
A dental implant is a titanium screw fitted into the gum, which can later be used to support a crown or a bridge or denture within the dental arch. For people who have lost all their teeth, dental implants can be a life changing experience.
They are ideal in cases where the teeth on either side of a space do not have the necessary support to hold a bridge or if conversely the patient does not wish to sacrifice unfilled teeth either side of a space in order to fit a bridge. Implants can also be used as a substructure to hold bars and a firmly supported top or bottom denture.
Although nowadays, the placement of dental implants has become more popular, it remains a complex speciality which should only be performed by the best surgeons. Dr. Carolyn Carbasse has been reconstructing implants for the last seven years and is qualified with a masters in implantology.

Although patients should always practise proper dental hygiene, this is especially true once a dental implant has been put into place. When teeth and gums are not properly cleaned, gums can swell leading to recession of the jawbone. This damage to the bone can weaken dental implants and eventually necessitate their removal. Patients should visit the hygienist every 3 months and the dentist every 6 months to ensure the health of their teeth and implants. People with dental implants should ideally give up smoking as smoking causes the bone in the jaw to recede and increases the risks of failure of the implant.
